Our Goals
In developing a high quality and effective adult education program, the MJUSD and the State Department of Education have established the following goals:
- To provide educational experiences for adults in need of basic academic skills at both elementary and secondary levels.
- To enable non-English speaking and limited-English speaking persons to learn English language skills through listening, speaking, reading, and writing to help them adapt to life in California.
- To provide counseling and guidance services for adults so they may plan and select those educational experiences that will effectively help them to achieve their goals.
- To provide the opportunity for high-risk youth to make up deficiencies, gain job training, and complete high school graduation requirements.
- To enable individuals to be employable, upgrade current job skills, and train or retrain for new occupations.
- To help individuals understand the development and functioning of our governmental institutions, including the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
- To provide the increasing number of older adults with the opportunity for personal growth and development, community involvement, and the learning of self-maintenance skills.
- To provide handicapped and disadvantaged adults the opportunity to maximize their potential in social, educational, and occupational areas.
- To provide programs in home economics that help adults improve their ability to manage the economic aspects of their lives.
- To play a dynamic role in providing community service classes that encourage adults to explore their interests.
In a continuing effort to attain our goals, we offer classes in the following areas:
- Adult Basic Education (ABE)
- GED Test Preparation
- High School Completion
- Citizenship
- ESL
